I believe in each person’s right to free speech, freedom to choose the religion of their choice, freedom to assemble and peaceably demonstrate. Graven, Austin, & Drake (GAD) was formed in 1991 by current CEO and owner, Jim Graven, who founded the company after a 20 year career in the investment business with Merrill Lynch and Paine Webber. I am a strong proponent of the Bill of Rights. I will support laws that prevent civil seizure of assets before a criminal charge is filed and will prevent forfeiture before a criminal conviction. Asset forfeiture has become an problem because the government is taking property from people before they have even been charged with a crime, much less convicted. I feel strongly about each individual’s property rights, including not only eminent domain, but civil asset forfeiture. I believe that small business is the key to a healthy economy because it is small business that provides the most jobs in this country. Too many politicians incorrectly believe that they can control the economy, when in reality all they are doing is shackling its growth. The best thing government can do to help the economy is get out of the way. You have my assurance that I will not support unfunded mandates in any form. I am also mindful that both the state and federal governments have a bad habit of passing unfunded mandates down to local governments and their citizens.

I will fight to protect those rights and fight against any legislation that would try to curb those rights. I believe strongly in the 2nd Amendment and each individual’s right to keep and bear arms.
